Notes from our recent activities

So many good activities are going on - the last meeting was in April, the challenge topic "abstract from an everyday object" brought a lot of amazing entries, but it was Roy Boston's stunning painting that captivated everyone and it was immediately selected as motif of our Open Show - thanks to Roy for offering it! The meeting continued with Joanne Mortimore giving us a tutorial and demo; Joanne provided us with a lovely South Island mountain scene - It was a great exercise for everyone who participated in the paint along session.

Our AWS Open Art Show, our annual open media cash-and-carry show, was by all accounts a full success - 10 sales are a good number, and beyond that it was great to see all these excellent works shown; that is certainly a good sign for our upcoming Merit Award show.

Also in May Bernadette Parsons gave another fully booked workshop for us, attendees could learn how to create two wonderful landscape paintings, and Bernadette capped this with a demo of a still life with flowers. It is so invaluable to have that personal guidance and feedback from one of our great New Zealand masters.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Auckland Watercolour Society will be on 12th June 2016, 1.30 pm at the Glenfield Memorial Hall, Hall Road, Glenfield, this time with our double challenge of the last two months: small boats at rest, and industrial/machinery.

Next month, July, we are looking forward to Ginette Wang, giving a demo "Watercolour impressionist style, demonstration with only one brush".

The upcoming challenge topics are:

July
Vast Distance
August:
A painting that expresses a mood
