Invitation for all members to submit design for new AWS header

This is an invitation for all members to submit a design for a new website header for the Auckland Watercolour Society Inc. The committee believes that members are capable of the task. Suggested guidelines:
  1. For consistency the fonts to be used should be the original 'Palatino Linotype' currently used.
  2. The design should consist of two elements :
    1. The words 'Auckland Watercolour Society Inc.'
    2. A symbol which describes our location , activities or aspirations. e.g. Pohutukawa tree or flower, Sky Tower, watercolour splashes, brushes, blobs of water etc.
  3. The size is not critical at this stage but needs to be elongated as for a header.
  4. A fairly high resolution jpeg image is required for the finished file.
  5. It is possible a member might have the right concept but not the computer skills to finish it off then I am sure there will be another member to help.
  6. The technicalities will be resolved later.
  7. The finished jpeg image file should be emailed to: where each header image will be given a number and a thumbnail to be included in the January or February newsletter so all members can see what is offered.
  8. It is proposed that these will be reduced to a short list by the committee followed by a vote by the members at probably the February meeting as to the most suitable. There is no limit to the number of designs members can offer. There is no prize money - just the honour and glory of having a credit associated with the successful design.

More impressions from the December meeting

What a grand idea it was to have a picnic lunch and some painting in the plein air afterwards for the last Auckland Watercolour Society meeting of the year...the day was sunny and warm though there was a slight haze over Rangitoto.

The haze didnít deter our members and after lunch hats and chairs featured in groups under the trees across the road and there were some great paintings on show at the end of the day.

We have had a busy year with workshops/monthly meetings and our grand finale the Members Merit Awards ... next year promises to be even busier as we plan our programme 2014 ...

In the meantime we would like to wish all our members and friends a very happy and safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
