Report from the August meeting

What an interesting afternoon we had on Monday 11th August - a good number of people attending - interesting subjects talked about - very successful indeed.
Louise Johnson told us about her early days as a student and her later days going over to Australia's Bathurst for a residential workshop with Amanda Hyatt - Louise showed us the results of her time with Amanda Hyatt as well...lovely paintings.
Roy Boston talked to us about tone or tonal values and showed a dvd on the subject - and a little exercise we could all do - making a tonal value chart -Roy also had a dvd of Amanda Hyatt which was rather appropriate to Louise's talk.
The challenge for the month was "my front door" - the photos of which may be seen in this newsletter - next month's challenge is "Islands of the South Pacific" - there are plenty to choose from - happy painting.....
At the end of the week, on 15th August, the first Saturday morning painting session took place. It was very successful - 11 people attended - two tutors were there to help - Kathie Shaw took the beginners and Joanne Mortimore took the more advanced. The first painting was a monotone in Burnt Sienna which gave the students the feeling of light and dark for the second painting which was done in 4 colours. Everyone did a good painting and learnt some techniques on the way.
